Antrim Coaching and Games Development Committee held its third P5/P6 indoor camogie Blitz on Saturday 22nd March. 20 teams played over 2 venues (St Louis Ballymena and Antrim Forum) in what was a very successful and enjoyable day’s camogie for all involved.
Teams at St Louis were: Ballycastle (2 teams) Rasharkin (2 teams) All Saints and St John’s Carnlough. The other blitz was held in 2 halls at Antrim Forum, clubs involved were: St Enda’s (x2) Cargin (x2), Gort Na Mona, Loughgiel (x2) St John’s (x2), Creggan, Portglenone (x2) and St Comgalls.
Over the 2 venues a total of 48 games were played by 19 teams from 12 clubs. While only goals were allowed, scores were not kept so this kept the emphasis on fun and development. The rules ensured that the ball was in play for the duration of the game and teams played 5 or 6 aside so all the girls were constantly involved in the play. Subs could run on and off. Antrim Development Officer Siobhan Poulter could see a marked improvement in the girls’ camogie from the first blitz in January. It was great to see Carnlough girls come along for the first time kick-starting their season.
Sincere thanks to all the coaches and parents who brought along their players on Saturday and well done to all the girls for a very entertaining and spirited day of camogie. A special thanks you to all the mentors who refereed the games.
That now finishes P5/P6 indoor season and we look forward to further outdoor fixtures after Easter. Antrim Coaching and Games Committee have circulated 6 proposed fixtures dates for P4/P5/P6 blitzes from mid May to mid September. Clubs interested will be asked to meet and agree dates and rules.
